Being a successful manager at American Cruise Lines requires the ability to inspire and motivate your crew to perform at their best. You will be given the tools to handle challenges, answer questions, and provide guests with a memorable cruise experience.

To prepare you for your management role, we offer both shore side and shipboard training. During this time, you will learn proven techniques for managing an onboard team and helping them to achieve their full potential.

Shoreside Training

After accepting a management job with American Cruise Lines, you will begin shore side training which can range from approximately 1 to 2 weeks in length. Conducted in a traditional classroom setting, this training is a combination of lectures and hands-on instruction.

Topics that will be covered: company culture, guest service standards, American Cruise Lines procedures and processes, your duties and responsibilities, shipboard safety, company policies, grooming and appearance, a Day in the Life, your work schedule, and our brand loyalty Eagle Society program.

Shipboard Training

Following shoreside training, new managers will transition to shipboard training which varies in length from 1 to 2 weeks. While on the ship, you will typically shadow the manager currently in this role. When applicable, you will also receive recurrent training time from one of our Hotel Operation Trainers throughout the season.

The crew members on board are the key to success for American Cruise Lines and are often one of the most significant reasons that our guests continue cruising with us. As the person on the “frontlines,” the importance of your role can not be understated.

To prepare you with the skills and knowledge needed to provide the best possible service to our guests, we offer shore side training at our brand new Home Office Training Facility in Guilford, CT.

Shoreside Training

After accepting the position, you will begin shore side training which can range in length from 3 to 5 days. This training is a combination of lectures and hands-on instruction and will be specifically tailored to the applicable job functions of each position.

Topics that will be covered: company culture, guest service standards, American Cruise Lines procedures and processes, your duties and responsibilities, shipboard safety, company policies, grooming and appearance, a Day in the Life, and your typical work schedule.

I love being able to work with different trainees who all have different personalities. It is both fun and challenging to develop our shipboard temporary employees to the point of being able to provide exemplary service to our guests. Watching them grow into young professionals throughout our training process is extremely rewarding.
