Our Hiring Process

For our shipboard positions, we hire candidates from all over the U.S. Typically, your first time interacting with us will be through a Skype interview. Once you fill out an application on our careers website, our recruiting team will review your submission. Applications for all shipboard positions are viewed on a rolling basis and, if selected, a recruiter will contact you regarding the next steps. Please give our recruiting team at least a week to fully review your application.

NOTE: Due to coast guard regulations, we can only hire American citizens to work onboard our ships.

Process for Temporary Positions

1. Skype Interview

If qualified, you'll be contacted by phone or email to do a Skype interview. This interview is replacing an initial in-person interview, so please be prepared. Try to find a quiet place with no distractions and dress professionally to make a good first impression with our recruiters.

We will discussion your past work experience as well as tell you a bit more about the role. Also, this will be a great opportunity for you to ask us questions or express any concerns you might have about taking on the position.

2. Interview Session

If your Skype interview goes well, we will invite you to one of our interview sessions at our headquarters in Guilford, CT. All travel and hotel expenses will be paid for by ACL. During this two-day session, you will attend an information session and have an in-person interview with one of our recruiters.

3. Training

If your interview session is successful, you may be offered a position and immediately sent to training. Training will also take place in CT and ,over the course of 3 days, we will immerse you in the culture of ACL. Both your job duties as well as shipboard life will be thoroughly discussed. Also, uniforms will be issued and you will begin to form friendships with your fellow colleagues in the training class.

 4. Beginning your 16 weeks

After training, you will be sent directly to a ship from CT or you may be placed on a call list depending on our need at the time. Either way, will fly you home or to whatever ship that you are assigned. However, if you are placed on a call list, you will be responsible for transportation to a ship once you are called.

Process for Manager, Captain, and Chef Positions

1. Skype Interview

If qualified, you'll be contacted by phone or email to do a Skype interview. This interview is replacing an initial in-person interview, so please be prepared.  Try to find a quiet place with no distractions and dress professionally to make a good first impression with our recruiters.

We will discussion your past work experience as well as tell you a bit more about the role. Also, this will be a great opportunity for you to ask us questions or express any concerns you might have about taking on the position.

2. In-person Interview

If the Skype interview goes well, you will be contact for a phone interview with one of our recruiting managers. After a brief conversation, he or she will schedule you for a time to come to our headquarters in CT for an in-person interview. ACL will pay for your trip and while you are at our offices, you will meet with our managers to further discuss the position. After a successful interview, you may be offered a position and scheduled to attend a training session.

3. Training Session

During this week at our headquarters, you be fully immerse in the culture at ACL. Training is designed to thoroughly cover your duties as well as give you the skills necessary to be successful on a ship. From training, you will be assigned to a ship.

Process for Corporate Positions

1. Phone Interview

If qualified, you will be contacted for a brief phone interview with one of our recruiters. He or she will discuss your interest in the position and schedule you for an in-person interview at our offices in Guilford, CT.

2. In-person Interview

During this interview, you will meet with a recruiter. We will ask about your past work experience as well as tell you a bit more about the role. Also, this will  be a great opportunity for you to ask us questions or express any concerns you might have about taking on the position. If all goes well, you may be scheduled for another in-person interview with our recruiting manager.
